North East, MD - The Garrett College baseball team pounded out 21 hits and scored 28 runs in two upset wins in the first round of the Region XX baseball playoffs at Cecil College on Tuesday afternoon.
In game one against CCBC-Dundalk, Ben Wright delivered an RBI single to score Brian Casper to open the scoring in the second inning. In the fourth inning a two-run double by Bryant Scheuch gave the Lakers a 3-0 lead and the Lakers would not look back. Zach Uhazie went the distance on the mound giving up no runs on only two hits while striking out eight Lions. Casper added a three-run homer in sixth and Cam Garcia had a two-run double to help the Lakers put the game out of reach with a ten-run inning. The Lakers defeated Dundalk 16-0.
In game two the Lakers faced the #4 seed Cecil College. The Laker bats stayed hot as they pounded out eleven hits in game two and got another solid performance on the mound from Reilly Rutgers. Rutgers gave up two runs, one earned and scattered six hits in six innings. Alfonse Sadallah, Cody Hammond and Brian Casper each drove in a pair of runs with Sadallah finishing with three hits on the day. Derek Gaisbauer and Doug Pollock added RBI doubles.
With the win the Lakers travel to CCBC-Catonsville for the NJCAA DII Region XX Final Four. #8 Garrett will face #1 Frederick Friday May 11, 2018 at 3pm, in the double elimination tournament. Live streaming of games will be available at https://www.youtube.com/ccbccatonsvillecardinals .
