The Garrett College baseball team split a pair of doubleheaders this weekend. On Saturday, the Lakers used a 10-run sixth inning to take game one from the Harford Fighting Owls 13-7. Todd Stocks picked up the win in relief, Juan Pinero had two hits including a double and drove in three runs. Colby Johnson had three hits and drove in two runs. Tanner George and Brandon Lucas also drove in two runs. In-game two, Pinero's sac fly in the top of the 7th tied the game 2-2. The next at-bat, Colby Johnson laced a base-hit up the middle but Harford's centerfielder made a strong throw at the plate and threw out Quintin Smith to end the inning. Laker pitcher Michael Joyce, who had been dealing all day holding Harford bats to two hits and one earned run going into the 7th, hit the first two batters of the 7th and after a strikeout, walked the next two Owl hitters to end the game and get saddled with the hard-luck loss. On Sunday, the Lakers almost erased a 7-0 deficit but lost to Stevenson University JV 7-6 in game one. Down 4-0 in-game two, Todd Stocks sac fly in the top of the 7th gave the Lakers their first lead of the day 7-6. The Lakers added another run and Pat Bart pitched a scoreless 7th for his first collegiate save. Colby Johnson tied the game in the 7th with a pinch-hit, two-run single and Bradie Moore came in relief in the first inning and held the Mustangs to no earned runs on five hits while striking out 10 in 5.1 innings. The Lakers are now 6-5 and return to action on Wednesday, March 11 against Fayetteville Tech for a single game on their way to their annual Myrtle Beach spring break trip. The first pitch is at 5 pm.
