HAGERSTOWN, Md. – Sixth-seeded Garrett College will play third-seeded Harford Community College in the opening Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference state tournament men's basketball quarterfinal Friday at noon at Hagerstown Community College.
The Lakers (15-8 overall, 8-6 league) dropped a 96-87 decision to visiting Harford in a November conference contest. The Owls (15-10, 10-4) are the defending state tournament champions.
Second-seeded Allegany College of Maryland (15-9, 11-3) takes on seventh-seeded Frederick Community College (16-8, 7-7) in Friday's 2 p.m. quarterfinal. The Harford-Garrett and ACM-Frederick winners play in Saturday's 5 p.m. state semifinal.
Fourth-seeded Prince George's Community College (19-4, 10-4) plays fifth-seeded Cecil College (16-9, 9-5) in Friday's 4 p.m. quarterfinal, while top-seeded Baltimore City Community College (19-7, 12-2) takes on eighth-seeded College of Southern Maryland (11-13, 7-7) in Friday's fourth quarterfinal contest at 6 p.m. The PGCC-Cecil and BCCC-CSM winners play in Saturday's 7 p.m. state semifinal.
The tournament title game is scheduled for Sunday at 4 p.m., with all tournament games at Hagerstown Community College.
