Bobcats hand Lakers first loss of the season

Meron Gheybreyesus hit two free throws to tie the game at 77 with under six minutes to go in the game but Bryant and Stratton used a 12-3 run late in the second half and upset the Lakers 95-90 at Carc Arena Saturday evening. With the score 89-80, Merlon Devine hit a two-point basket and D'Monte Brown stole the in-bounds pass, got fouled and hit two free throws to cut the Bobcats lead to 89-84. That is as close as the Lakers would get. Both teams scored six points down the stretch and Bryant and Stratton escaped with the win.

In the first half, Cam Selders' layup tied the game at 20-20 and Brown's layup gave the Lakers a two-point lead with 8:26 left in the first half. Late in the first half, a free throw and bucket by Iziah Alexander put the Lakers up 41-39 and Brown's driving layup beat the buzzer to give the Lakers a 43-39 halftime lead. Five minutes into the second half Oliver Jacquot and Strahinja Ivic knocked down three-pointers to give the Lakers a 59-55 lead. The Bobcats used a mini 8-3 run to take the lead at 63-62 with twelve minutes left. Brown again made a layup for Garrett to give them their last lead of the night 64-63. Brown led all scorers with 28 points off the bench, Selders finished with 9 points 9 rebounds and two blocks, Nathan Payet had 14 points and Devine chipped in with 11. The Lakers fall to 3-1 on the year and play Wednesday, November 20 at home against Butler County Community College. The tip-off time is 7 pm.
