Lakers edge Trojans

Garrett Lakers held on for a win against long-time rival Allegany College of MD 77-76 at CARC Arena Monday night. Meron Gheybreyseus' basket with one second left on the shot clock gave the Lakers a three-point lead with 30 seconds left. After a missed three-point attempt by Allegany, the Trojans fouled Cameron Selders. Selders missed both free throws and Allegany called timeout to set up an inbounds play. Allegany's O'Bray Rufus had a nice look for a three-pointer but missed. Justin Copman grabbed the rebound and laid it in with .2 seconds left. The Lakers inbounded the ball and time expired. Gheybreyseus led the Lakers with 17 points, Merlon Devine had 16 and Nathan Payet added 11. Selders had another all-round game, scoring 13 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and adding seven assists and seven steals. The Lakers' defense held Allegany to under 36 % from the field and under 30% from the three-point range. The Trojans also had shooting woes at the foul line (21-33 63.6%). With the win, the Lakers improve to 10-3 while the Trojans drop to 6-11 on the year. Garrett is back in action on Thursday, January 16 when they travel to Northern Virginia Community College. The tip-off time is 7:00 PM.
