Lakers end skid

Kenyon Stone led five Lakers in double figures scoring 14 points as Garrett ended a three-game losing streak as they defeated Prince George's Community College 80-79 at Carc Arena Wednesday night. In the first half, Merlon Devine (13 points) scored 10 of the Laker's first 15 points giving the Lakers an early lead. The Owls tied the game at 24 apiece with just under 13 minutes to go in the half. Meron Gheybreyesus (12 points) three-pointer started a 7-1 run for the Lakers capped off by Strahinja Ivic's (13 points) three-pointer to give Garrett a 34-25 lead. However, the Owls finished the half on a 22-8 run of their own to go into halftime with a five-point lead. In the 2nd half, Stone's two-point basket tied the game at 49. Ivic's tip-in and D'Monte Brown's three-pointer gave the Lakers a 58-53 lead. PG's Tunde Scrivner's three-pointer tied the game at 72-72. After trading buckets, Brown's driving layup and Iziah Alexander's layup gave the Lakers a 78-74 lead with 1:11 to go in the game. Scrivner hit another three and after Stone went one for two at the free-throw line he made a driving layup to tie the game at 79-79 with 15.9 seconds left. After a timeout, Cameron Selders (10 points) was fouled and went to the line with 5.2 seconds left. Selders made one of two to give the Lakers an 80-79 lead. After a time out, the Owls inbounded the ball to Scrivner. He drove past two defenders and his short jumper in the lane fell short at the buzzer. With the win, the Lakers improve to 15-6 overall and 4-3 in the MDJUCO. The Lakers will host Region XX DII and MDJUCO opponent CCBC-Catonsville for a Saturday matinee with a tip-off time at  2 PM.
