Lewis Announced as Head Women's Basketball Coach

Garrett College and the Garrett Lakers athletic staff would like to welcome Jeffrey "JT" Lewis as the Head Women's Basketball Coach for the 2017- 2018 season. JT has extensive experience coaching as an assistant at both the high school and college level, serving this past year as the number one assistant to the nationally ranked Garrett College men's and women's basketball teams.

A resident of Morgantown, WV, JT attended Garrett College from 2007-2009 and played Men's Basketball under NJCAA Hall of Fame Coach Dennis Gibson. After Garrett, he continued his career at Glenville State College, and earned his Bachelor's Degree from West Virginia University.

Athletic Director and Head Men's Basketball Coach Dennis Gibson is pleased that Garrett College administration saw the same things in hiring Coach Lewis that he believes are his greatest assets as a coach, a great personality, and work ethic. " JT was a player that came to work every day at practice with a smile on his face and a willingness to do the dirty work on the court, he was a very unselfish player," noted Gibson. "He was not concerned about personal accolades, he just wanted his team to be successful."

Lewis will be charged with not only keeping the Lady Lakers at a high level in regional play, but also improving all facets of the program. He will be coordinating recruiting for both the men's and women's basketball teams, developing summer camps for athletics, and he will be a night time coordinator for the CARC gymnasium facilities. Lewis will also serve as the Associate Head Golf Coach.

Gibson is looking forward to what JT can bring to the ladies team administratively also. " Women's basketball has been successful, but our goal is to win a Region XX Championship, which we have not done in women's basketball since 2008. I would like to see Coach Lewis elevate the overall team GPA, build support for the within the local community and on campus. So far, JT has done an excellent job with the difficult task of resigning the returning players that may have gone elsewhere. additionally, he has signed some outstanding players. Lastly, he has gotten his first taste of working with the recruitment of our current players, and has helped outstanding freshman Hannah Henderson land a scholarship at Grambling State University," stated Gibson. " The team should be very exciting based on recruiting alone, but there are some top returners also."

The Lady Lakers first home game under Coach Lewis is currently scheduled for Novemeber 10, 2017 in the annual McDonald's Classic tip - off tournament.
