Darick Kerns

Darick Kerns is entering his 3rd season on the Men’s Basketball staff at Garrett College.

 

Darick grew up in Lavale, MD and attended Allegany High School where he was a 3 year varsity basketball player, graduating in 2016. 

 

After a stellar high school career, Darick attended St Mary’s College of MD playing for longtime Head Coach Chris Harney. Darick has always been a student of the game and has a very good basketball background. Aside from playing collegiate basketball he was always very interested in coaching after finishing his schooling. 

 

After college, Darick joined the staff at Allegany High School and became the Head Freshman Boy’s Basketball Coach as well as assisting his high school coach Ted Erich at the varsity level. Coach Erich had a fantastic career at Allegany accumulating 400 plus wins and made multiple state tournament appearances (2 of which Darick was a part of as a player). Darick credits much of his knowledge in the game of basketball to Coach Erich as both a player and a coach on his staff.

 

Darick’s role has expanded since joining the staff in 2023. He has helped lead the Lakers to 37 wins in the past two seasons. He is a crucial part of the continued success that Coach McCullough’s program has had since we joined the staff. He has help guide 4 players to All-Region and All Conference Awards, helped 7 guys earn NJCAA Academic All-American Status and was criticial in the development and success of Alex Vargo’s NJCAA All American selection following the 2023-2024 season.

 

Going into his third year, he has high expectations for the team and players not only as athletes but as students. His top priority is to help maximize the opportunity these young men in the program earn Associate’s Degree’s at Garrett and receive scholarship opportunities at the 4-year level.
